Since acquiring Mookie Betts and David Price from the Boston Red Sox for Alex Verdugo, Connor Wong, and Jeter Downs, the Los Angeles Dodgers have made it a priority to sign Betts before he hits Free Agency and just one day before opening day, the team locked him up long term. On Wednesday, Los Angeles signed Mookie Betts to a 12-year extension worth $365 Million. Betts was in the final year of his contract and become a free agent after this season.
In 150 Games last season, Betts hit 29 home runs, and 80 RBI’s with a batting average of .295. Although Betts will hit for more than 20 home runs a season, another aspect of his game is his defensive ability. Since 2016 Betts is second in Outfield Arm Runs Saved in Right Field with 12. Only Aaron Judge (14) has more in that span. In that span, Betts also saved 93 runs which are best in the MLB among Right Fielders.
Before getting traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers and signing an extension, Boston offered Betts an extension worth roughly $300 million but Betts declined the offer and wanted to play out the rest of his contract in Boston before committing to any long term deal with them.
