Lewandowski Will Miss 4 Weeks Due to Knee Injury

One of world football’s brightest stars, Robert Lewandowski, will be forced to miss up to 4 weeks after tests discovered that he had fractured his left tibia during Bayern Munich’s dominating 3-0 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday. The club wrote in a brief report on their website that the Polish machine will be fitted into a cast for 10 days and then eased into rehab.

What makes this an especially unusual situation is that all this occurred after the world’s greatest goalscorer notched one more goal and two assists to lead the Bavarian club over Chelsea at Old Trafford, all but stamping their ticket to the Champions League quarterfinals.

It’s fair to say, however, that a performance like he had yesterday was somewhat lukewarm in comparison to the rest of his season so far. That’s because in the 33 matches he has played across the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, DFL Supercup, and Champions League in 2019-20, he has scored 39 times, or once every 74 minutes. To put that into comparison, the 31-year-old Pole has once again been the world’s best goalscorer, even better than Lionel Messi (1 goal per 107), Cristiano Ronaldo (1 goal per 110), or Neymar (1 goal per 108).

Now with all being said, this shouldn’t spell doom for the boys at Super Bayern. If the reported prognosis of 4 weeks is correct, Bayern will be without their gold star for only 6 games:

  1. 2/29 – Bundesliga match against 8th place Hoffenheim
  2. 3/3 – DFB Cup match against Schalke
  3. 3/8 – Bundesliga match against 12th place Augsburg
  4. 3/14 – Bundesliga match against 10th place Union Berlin
  5. 3/18 – Champions League 2nd leg against the all but defeated Chelsea
  6. 3/22 – Bundesliga match against 11th place Eintracht Frankfurt

He should be available for Bayern’s next mammoth league match, a dance with their top rival Borussia Dortmund.

So while this whole situation will most certainly cause some issues at the top for the league leaders Bayern Munich, I genuinely don’t see how the boys from Bavaria will skip a beat in the league, the cup, or the Champions League. But if anything does happen, we will be here to report on it.
