Leicester City broke the bank on Tuesday afternoon after they agreed to spend up to 32 million pounds for young up-and-coming center back Wesley Fofana from Saint-Etienne. The 19-year-old will be the Foxes’ second most expensive signing in their history, behind only club star Youri Tielemans who joined from AS Monaco last year for just under 50 million. Fofana will also be the biggest sale for Saint-Etienne, a record that has been previously held by fellow center backs Kurt Zouma and William Saliba.
The French International is set to sign a five-year deal with the club which means he should become a strong fixture at Leicester for years to come. And with both Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan both with contracts set to expire at the end of this season and Caglar Söyüncü always the subject of transfer rumors, Fofana should be able to ease Fox fans’ concerns.
The 6’3″ center half from Marseille was said to be excited with the idea of moving to Leicester. Fofana was previously linked with AC Milan over the summer, however it seems that the pull of moving to a sturdy Premier League power was too intriguing for the player. This signing will be a fitting end for Leicester as well, as they previously failed to bring in Burnley anchor James Tarkowski, who still remains at the club for now.
Fofana will join former Atalanta left back Timothy Castagne and Roma winger Cengiz Under as the third acquisition for Leicester. After three weeks of Premier League action, the Foxes are firing on all cylinders. They’ve won all their matches so far and currently sit 1st in the Premier League thanks to goal difference.
