Kyle Busch Claims Sixth Win of Season at Pocono

Kyle Busch survived a post-qualifying inspection failure to capture his sixth win of the 2018 Nascar Monster Energy Cup season at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.  His win on Sunday gave Busch the weekend sweep as he claimed the Camping World Truck Series race the previous day.

On the final restart Busch was able to hold off hard charging Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones for the win.  Suarez, who started from pole, was not able to catch Busch on the final restart in overtime and settled for second after maintain a front running position for most of the race..

With his second place finish on Sunday, Daniel Suarez secured his best finish of the 2018 season.  Suarez’s teammate Kyle Busch was full of complements for his JGR teammate after his win.  “Suarez, man, I can’t say enough about my teammate,” Busch said after the win. “He was probably the third-best car. Harvick was the best car, and we were second-best car, and I think Suarez was the third-best car. He gave us a run for our money there on that last restart.”

Alex Bowman finished third while sporting a Philadelphia Eagles paint scheme.

Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman secured a career best third place finish behind the wheel of the No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet while Kevin Harvick finished in fourth.  Bowman’s car was wrapped in Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles colors on Sunday promoting a relationship between Axalta, the Eagles and All For Teachers.  Erik Jones finished in fifth making him the third Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in the top five.

Richard Petty Motorsports driver Bubba Wallace suffered a huge accident in his No. 43 Mile 22 Ford bringing out one of the final two cautions of the race.  Wallace escaped serious injury in the crash citing brake failure as the culprit.

With his win Kyle Busch maintains the series points standings lead with Kevin Harvick 48 points back in second after Pocono.  Martin Truex Jr. sits in third 129 points behind Busch while Joey Logano and Clint Bowyer round out the top five.


The Nascar Monster Energy Cup Series heads to upstate New York for the Go Bowling at the Glen from Watkins Glen International. Coverage begins on Sunday at 3 p.m. on NBC.
