Kimbrel Expected to Join Team in Tampa Bay

Craig Kimbrel, closer for the Boston Red Sox, will reportedly travel with the team to Tampa Bay for their season opener on March 29th.

Kimbrel has been absent all of spring training, as he has been alongside his infant daughter, who was born in November and is undergoing her second heart surgery. Lydia was born with a serious heart defect and will need a third surgery, at around the age of 3 or 4, to correct her anatomy and ensure she grows to a fully healthy child.

Although Lydia won’t be released from the hospital for roughly a month, Kimbrel said his daughter was in good and healthy condition, otherwise he would not be joining the team.

While he was not at the Boston’s Children Hospital, the reliever was at Babson College practicing and preparing for the upcoming season.

“There’s no denying it’s been the toughest thing we’ve ever been through. In the last week, her recovery has been unbelievable, and she’s showing great signs.” Kimbrel said in a news conference Monday.

Hopefully for him, and his family, his daughter recovers from this and sees no further complications. Wishing them the best here at Game Changer Sports Network.
