On Friday, it was announced that Gilbert Burns will not make his scheduled UFC Welterweight Title Fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251. With the event days away, the UFC has been looking for a replacement for Burns but the search is now over. On Sunday, it was reported that Jorge Masvidal will be stepping in Burns place and will be fighting Usman for the Welterweight Title at UFC 251 on Saturday Night pending COVID 19 testing.
Before Mavidal was Burns’s replacement, both sides were far off in contract talks to make this fight happen to force the company to give Burns the title shot after his win against Tyron Woodley in his last fight.
Even though Masvidal is replacing Burns, he was not the only person considered. Colby Covington was another fighter who was considered to replace Burns before the company went with Masvidal.
