Juventus Set to Bring in Arthur Melo From Barcelona

Juventus Set to Bring in Arthur Melo From Barcelona

Juventus have agreed to send upwards of 80 million euros (90.5 million dollars) to Barcelona in order to bring in midfielder Arthur Melo. This move comes as somewhat of a surprise, not only because the Italian supergiant already has a large number of midfielders already, but also because it’s been widely reported that the Brazilian only wants to play at the Camp Nou. So while the two clubs have come to an agreement, it’s important to note that the move has not been finalized.

In order to bring in the 23-year-old, Juve gaffer Maurizio Sarri will surely need to offer him a massive yearly wage. The number floating around at present is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 million euros, which would give him just less than 100 thousand per week.

According to Sky Sports, Sarri desperately wants to bring in Arthur and make him a cornerstone of a new, younger midfield. This season, the former Napoli and Chelsea coach has used guys like Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi, Aaron Ramsey, and Douglas Costa, but he’s ready to bring in some new blood to build the team around for the future.

This season, Arthur has appeared in 26 matches across all competitions, mostly at either defensive midfield. He’s scored four times over that span and has added an additional four more assists. With that being said, many close to the game in Spain have said that he’s been severely outclassed by other holding midfielders around La Liga, including Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde. Messi himself has reportedly said that he wants to move on from the Brazilian.

Barca may find their replacement in current Juve man Miralem Pjanic. Further reports have indicated that the Catalonian giant is ready to take the Bosnian for around 70 million euros (79 million dollars) in what would make this transaction one of the biggest player swaps in recent memory.

The 30-year-old Pjanic has had a pretty successful campaign this season. Over 35 appearances so far, he’s scored three goals and has added two assists. But as he’s up around the end of his prime, it makes sense for Juve to maximize the amount of money they can receive for a longtime steward for “The Old Lady.”

Once again, neither of these moves have been finalized, but we will be sure to update everyone if and when things progress.
