Jets trade backup QB to Saints

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the New Orleans Saints have aquired backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater from the New York Jets.

Signing with the Jets in March, Bridgewater was slotted as a valuable asset both as a chip to trade, as well as potential starting QB which – up until this point – was not yet finalized. It is now confirmed that Sam Darnold, the #3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, will start for the Jets week 1.

As reported by the NFL Network; “the Saints will surrender a third-round draft pick as compensation, per NFL Network’s Michael Silver.”

Bridgewater provides a massive upgrade to the backup QB position in New Orleans. As they look to not only push for a playoff run this season, but also start to develop a replacement option for Drew Brees.

As preseason numbers show, Bridgewater is not only fully recovered and healthy, but has seemed to recaputre the spark that made him a Pepsi Rookie of the Year in 2014.

Bridgewater only played 1 game last season for the Vikings, after missing all of the 2016 season due to a knee injury.
