Jameis Winston Is Heading Back To New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints were put into two different situations with the retirement of Drew Brees on Sunday. The first situation was in fact good as they opened up some highly needed cap room as they worked to get under the cap. The second situation was not a good one as they went into the market for a new QB. Most everyone knew that Jameis Winston wouldn’t be leaving New Orleans this year. The Saints have signed him to a one year, $12 million deal.

Jameis Winston spent the entire 2020 season as a backup to Drew Brees. Winston was originally drafted with the 1st overall pick in the 2015 NFL and has spent every single season but last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston was let go in free agency when the Bucs were able to bring in living legend Tom Brady. In the 2019 season Jameis led the league in passing yards with 5,109 yards. The downside to that year was that he also threw the league leading 30 interceptions.

Winston takes over a New Orleans team that is ready to win now as Running Back Alvin Kamara and WR Micheal Thomas will both be back in that high powered offense. They had to cut most of the overpaid and older players on the roster to make in under the cap but they are still in a very good spot as a team.
