J.J. Watt Heading To Arizona

J.J. Watt Heading To Arizona

After spending 10 years with the Houston Texans, J.J. Watt was granted his release from the team on February 12th. With free agency starting on March 17th, Watt wasted no time and made his decision on his new team before free agency began. On Monday, the Arizona Cardinals signed Watt to a 2 year deal worth $31M with $23M guaranteed.

In 16 games in 2020, Watt had 36 tackles, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception. During a game last season against the New England Patriots, J.J. Watt made history by becoming the first defensive linemen in NFL history to record four batted passes and a tackle for loss in a game. Despite playing in 16 games only twice since 2016 due to injuries, Watt is still a treat on the field with his ability to get after the quarterback and create pressure. Outside of that, Watt is an outstanding leader on and off the field.

With DeAndre Hopkins getting traded to Arizona last year, Watt is now reunited with Hopkins. Both Watt and Hopkins played for the Houston Texans from 2013-2019. Outside of playing with Hopkins, J.J. Watt now joins a defense that includes Chandler Jones, Budda Baker, Jordan Hicks, and Isaiah Simmons .
