Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21 KO’s) is fresh off a victory in which he regained his titles from Andy Ruiz Jr. With that victory comes obligations he is familiar with as the unified Heavyweight Champion of the world, and it looks as if he will be making his return to the ring, sooner rather than later.
The IBF already has ordered a deadline for Joshua’s Promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing to make a purse bid deal to the IBF’s number one ranked contender, Kubrat Puvalev (28-1, 14 KO’s). Puvalev is co-represented by promoters Top Rank and Epic Sports. The two sides now have until the 31st of January to strike a deal for the bout, or Joshua risks being stripped of his IBF title.
Anthony Joshua last fought in December 7th, when he reclaimed his titles against Andy Ruiz Jr in their heavyweight rematch in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Anthony Joshua won in dominant fashion in a fight where many scored him winning almost every round in a boxing clinic. Meanwhile Puvalev, last fought on November 9th against Rydell Booker in a unanimous decision victory. Puvalev’s only loss came in 2014 when he challenged then heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF and lineal Heavyweight titles.
Joshua has also been ordered by the WBO to defend his title against Oleksander Usyk (17-0, 13 KO’s). The future of the heavyweight division looks very bright at the moment, with many lucrative matches to be made in the near future.
