Demarcus Cousins and the Houston Rockets are going to part ways. Houston has not had a great season so far. It all started with James Harden doing anything and everything to make his way out of town. This was followed by injuries that have held the team down. They currently sit 13th in the Western Conference at 11-17. The Rockets are only 3.5 games back from the eighth seed. Now they are dealing with DeMarcus Cousins on his way out of town according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Houston reportedly wants to get smaller and younger in the frontcourt when Christian Woods returns to the lineup.
Cousins has spent most of his time with the Houston Rockets this season coming off the bench. In this role he has amassed 9.6 PPG and 7.6 RPG in his 25 games played. 2020-2021 is Cousins’ first year back in the league after missing all of last season with a torn ACL. He signed a one year, $2.3 million deal at the start of the season. On Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski had reported that Houston fully guaranteed his contract. This makes it possible to sign with any team that he wants.
Cousins is a 10 year veteran who has been to four all star games. He is also a two time all NBA team award winner and you can also add that he is a one time Olympic champion.
Christian Woods Return?
Christian Wood went down with an ankle injury on February 5th against the Memphis Grizzlies. Wood has been a standout player for the Houston Rockets this season as he has averaged 22 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game in 17 games so far this season. Before the season started, the 25 year old Wood signed a three year, $41 million deal with the Rockets. He is likely to return after the all star break.
