Heading into the NBA Playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks were the favorites in the Eastern Conference to make it all the way to the NBA Finals. The team had momentum on their side until they got eliminated by the Miami Heat in the second round in 5 games. Even though Milwaukee did not reach the Eastern Conference Finals, Giannis Antetokounmpo got recognized for his production this season. On Friday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the NBA MVP for the second year in a row, beating out players like James Harden and LeBron James. Although Antetokounmpo won MVP, this is not the only award he won this season; he was also named NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
With Antetokounmpo winning both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, he joins Michael Jordan in 1988 and Hakeem Olajuwon in 1994 as the only players in NBA history to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. In 63 games this season, Antetokounmpo averaged 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.6 assist, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals while playing 30.4 minutes per game.
