NHL Trade Deadline Full Recap

Game Changer Sports Network brings you real-time NHL trades as they happen on Monday. With the Trade Deadline set at 3pm EST, stay tuned here for up-to-the-minute NHL trades. All times in the following trade news are Eastern Time:

12:13 AM – The Edmonton Oilers beef up their blue line, receiving Mike Green from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Kyle Brodziak and a conditional 2020 fourth round pick.

The pick will upgrade to a third if the Oilers make the Western Conference Finals and Green plays at least 50% of the playoff games.

9:40 AM – The Colorado Avalanche add some depth to their forward group, acquiring Vladislav Namestnikov from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a 2021 fourth round pick.

9:48 AM – The Ottawa Senators make their second move minutes after their first, shipping Jean-Gabriel Pageau to the New York Islanders for a conditional first round draft pick in 2020, a second round pick in 2020, and a conditional third round pick in 2022.

The first-rounder in 2020 shifts to a first in 2021 if the Islanders pick in the top three of this year’s draft. There are no conditions on the 2020 second-rounder and the conditions on the 2022 third exists only if the Islanders win the Stanley Cup this year.

10:11 AM – The first real blockbuster trade of the day. The Florida Panthers acquire four players from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Vincent Trocheck. The Panthers receive Erik Haula, Lucas Wallmark, Chase Priskie, and Eetu Luostarinen in return.

10:51 AM – The Philadelphia Flyers add a veteran to their lineup, acquiring Nate Thompson from the Montreal Canadiens for a 2020 fifth rounder.

11:01 AM – 40-year-old Patrick Marleau is off to chase a Stanley Cup, adding veteran forward depth to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The San Jose Sharks will receive a 2020 third round draft pick in return, which will upgrade to a second round pick if the Penguins win the Stanley Cup.

11:03 AM – The Nashville Predators extend forward Rocco Grimaldi to a two-year, $4 million deal.

11:14 AM – Projected to be traded for weeks leading up to the deadline, the New York Rangers announced that they will be extending Chris Kreider for the next seven years with an AAV of $45.5 million.

11:17 AM – Right after announcing the Kreider extension, Rangers President John Davidson announces that forward Pavel Buchnevich and roomie goaltender Igor Shesterkin were involved in a car accident in Brooklyn on Sunday night.

Buchnevich escaped with bumps and bruises, and was at the Rangers morning skate on Monday. Shesterkin suffered a non-displaced rib fracture and will miss the next 2-4 weeks.

11:31 AM – The Toronto Maple Leafs re-acquire defenceman Callie Rosen from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for goaltender Michael Hutchinson.

11:38 AM – The Philadelphia Flyers add more depth to their lineup, acquiring forward Derek Grant from the Anaheim Ducks for prospect Kyle Criscuolo and a 2020 fourth round pick.

11:50 AM – The Buffalo Sabres add Wayne Simmonds to their lineup. The New Jersey Devils receive a conditional fifth round pick in 2021 in exchange.

The fifth-round pick can turn into a fourth-rounder if the Sabres make the playoffs and Simmonds plays at least 10 games. The New Jersey Devils retain 50% of Simmonds’ salary.

11:58 AM – The Detroit Red Wings claim Toronto Maple Leafs forward Dmytro Timashov off waivers.

11:59 AM – The Anaheim Ducks claim Pittsburgh Penguins forward Andrew Agazzino off waivers.

12:27 PM – The Anaheim Ducks acquire forward Danton Heinen from the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Nick Ritchie.

12:36 PM – In a minor league deal, the Ottawa Senators receive forward Matthew Peca from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Aaron Luchuk and a 2020 7th round pick.

1:12 PM – The Edmonton Oilers acquire forward Andreas Athanasiou and prospect Ryan Kuffner from the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit receives forward Sam Gagner and second round draft picks in 2020 and 2021 in exchange.

1:49 PM – Having acquired forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau from the Ottawa Senators just hours prior, the New York Islanders extend Pageau on a six-year deal with an AAV of $5 million. The extension comes with a no-trade clause for the first two years of the deal, and a partial no-trade clause for the remaining years.

1:57 PM – The Edmonton Oilers acquire forward Tyler Ennis from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a 2021 5th round draft pick.

2:11 PM – Calgary Flames acquire defenceman Derek Forbort from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a fifth round draft pick in 2021.

2:20 PM – The Pittsburgh Penguins acquire forwards Evan Rodrigues and Conor Sheary from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Dominik Kahun.

Sheary was part of the Penguins’ 2017 Stanley Cup winning team, and now goes back to Pittsburgh hoping to repeat that success this year.

2:49 PM – The Carolina Hurricanes are receiving defenceman Sami Vatanen from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a pick and a prospect.

2:56 PM – Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Robin Lehner is heading to the Vegas Golden Knights. Chicago will receive goaltender Malcolm Subban, and a second round pick in 2020.


3:01 PM – The Toronto Maple Leafs announce that Tyson Barrie will not be traded.

3:04 PM – The San Jose Sharks announce that Joe Thornton will not be traded.

3:12 PM – The Carolina Hurricanes also added defenceman Brady Skjei at the buzzer, in exchange for a 2020 first round draft pick.

3:17 PM – The Toronto Maple Leafs extend defenceman Jake Muzzin to a four-year deal worth $22.5 million.

3:18 PM – The Columbus Blue Jackets trade forward Sonny Milano to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Devin Shore.

3:21 PM – Goaltender Louis Domingue is headed to the Vancouver Canucks. The New Jersey Devils will receive goaltender Zane McIntyre in return.

3:28 PM – The Tampa Bay Lightning acquire forward Barclay Goodrow from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2020 first round pick.

3:43 PM – The Anaheim Ducks receive defenceman Matt Irwin from the Nashville Predators, and defenceman Christian Djoos from the Washington Capitals. Washington receives forward Daniel Sprong and Nashville receives defenceman Korbinian Holzer in return.

4:07 PM – The Montreal Canadiens ship forward Nick Cousins to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a 2020 fourth round draft pick.

4:14 PM – The Arizona Coyotes acquire forward Markus Hannikainen from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 2020 7th round pick.

4:23 PM – A one-for-one minor league deal. The Philadelphia Flyers trade defenceman TJ Brennan to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Nathan Noel.

4:42 PM – Defenceman Erik Gustafsson is on his way to Calgary from Chicago. The Blackhawks in exchange will receive the earliest of Calgary’s two third-round draft picks in 2020.

4:51 PM – In another minor league deal, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquire forward Matt Lorito from the New York Islanders in exchange for defenceman Jordan Schmaltz.

5:00 PM – It is revealed that the Toronto Maple Leafs were part of a three-team trade that helped the Vegas Golden Knights land goaltender Robin Lehner. The Toronto Maple Leafs will retain $1.4 million of Lehner’s salary, and receive a fifth round pick in 2020 from the Vegas Golden Knights as compensation. The Golden Knights also land forward prospect Martins Dzierkals.

5:16 PM – The Anaheim Ducks gain another defenceman, trading goaltending prospect Angus Redmond and a 2022 7th round pick to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenceman Joel Persson.

5:34 PM – The Calgary Flames trade defenceman Brandon Davidson to the San Jose Sharks for future considerations.
