Manchester City fans were not too happy on Friday morning when they found out that they had lost yet another striker due to injury. Gabriel Jesus will reportedly miss around a month of action for an injury that has yet to be disclosed. This news originally came from the Brazilian National Team after the 23-year-old was taken off the roster for the yellow and blues’ two upcoming matches next month against Bolivia and Peru. He will be replaced by Hertha Berlin’s Matheus Canha, who’s being called up to Brazil’s first team for the first time.
According to the announcement made earlier on Friday, Jesus apparently received his injury during Man City’s 3-1 victory over Wolves, a game during which Jesus actually bagged his first goal of the season. He will now join fellow striker Sergio Aguero, winger Bernardo Silva, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, left back Oleksandr Zinchenko, right back Joao Cancelo, and center back Eric Garcia on the club’s injured list.
The injury bug has been so bad at the Etihad, that manager Pep Guardiola has said that he has only 13 available players for his team’s upcoming Premier League clash with Leicester City. One of those 13 may be 17-year-old striker Liam Delap, who may earn his first career start for the English giant this weekend. He scored his first professional goal last night against Bournemouth.
As for Brazil, they still have the aforementioned Matheus Canha, Everton (Benfica), Roberto Firmino (Liverpool), Neymar (PSG), Richarlison (Everton), Rodrygo (Real Madrid) for next months fixtures.
