Wednesday may be the dawn of a new era at Goodison Park.
That’s because according to multiple reports, starting with Jason Burt from The Telegraph, the Toffees are set to announce that world superstar James Rodriguez has signed a three-year contract with the club. The Real Madrid midfielder will thus reunite with the man who oversaw his best year at the Bernabeu, current Everton gaffer, Carlo Ancelotti.
Rodriguez is easily one of the more identifiable footballers on the planet. The 29-year-old burst on to the world stage way back in 2014 when he cracked one of the greatest goals ever struck in the FIFA World Cup. In fact it was his performance during that tournament that spurred Los Galacticos to bring in the Colombian from AS Monaco for an incredible 67 million pounds. During his first year at the largest club in the world, Rodriguez scored the same number of goals (17) as fellow superstar and teammate Gareth Bale, and proved to be a valuable teammate for football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Unfortunately for J-Rod, he never really found consistent play during the rest of his time at Real. After appearing in 46 matches during his first season, he never reached more than 33 in each of his next two seasons. After the 2016-17 campaign, in which he did win his first La Liga and second Champions League, he was shipped off to Bayern Munich on a rare two-year loan.
Once he arrived in Bavaria, he continued to struggle for consistent play time. Over his two season run with the current Champions of Europe, Rodriguez appeared in 67 matches, scored 15 times, and added two Bundesliga and one DFB-Pokal trophies, but also started to fade into the background on the world stage. He would later return to Madrid for the 2019-20 season, where he appeared in a dismal 14 matches and scored only once.
So a move for James couldn’t possibly come at a better time. At only 29, he still has plenty left to give. He should also feel a boost because this move will serve as his introduction to the Premier League, and he’ll do it with a club that has long harbored low expectations. This move could prove to be the best thing to happen to the Colombian, as well as the club.
While all of that would be stellar news on its own, J-Rod isn’t the only marquee player who is said to be splashing down at Everton tomorrow. That’s because it also sounds like another former Ancelotti standout, 29-year-old midfielder Allan, will also be joining the Toffees. The Brazilian was a standout during the current Everton manager’s time at Napoli and was even linked to PSG on a 90 million pound transfer as recent as last summer. This move will reportedly only cost Everton 25 million pounds.
Just imagine what an Everton midfield featuring James Rodriguez and Allan will look like, because it’s about to happen.
