Everton Brings in Doucoure From Watford

Everton Football Club continued their busy summer spending spree by introducing midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure as their newest signing. Doucoure joins the Toffees on a three-year contract after the club sent around 20 million pounds to newly relegated Watford.

The 27-year-old will now lineup with fellow recent arrivals James Rodriguez and Allan in an all-new midfield created by manager Carlo Ancelotti, who himself goes into the 2020-21 season with big aspirations. Ancelotti’s move for Doucoure will also serve as a reunion with Everton striker Richarlison, who played at Watford during the 2017-18 campaign.

The Frenchman sports a wealth of Premier League experience. Back in 2016, the then 23-year-old first signed with Watford one year after they themselves returned to England’s top flight. Over his four-season stretch at Vicarage Road, Doucoure appeared in 141 matches, scored 17 goals, and was coached by six different managers. Along with Troy Deeney and Ismaila Sarr, he was one of the club’s most recognizable players.

After Watford were officially relegated a few months ago, it came as little surprise that Doucoure was going to be one of the guys set to leave for another club still in the Prem. It stands to reason that he was brought in not only for his talents, but because of his experience in the league. It’ll be interesting to see if he translate that experience into a leadership role at the club.

Speaking with EvertonFC.com, the newest Toffee expressed his excitement with the move. “I had some interest from other clubs, but from the beginning when Everton showed an interest in me I told my agent to focus on Everton…It was the only club I wanted to join.”

When asked what he thinks he can bring to the team, Doucoure said, “I can bring my energy – I am a powerful player, I can run a lot, all the game.” He added, “I can add goals as well. I will try my best to score goals and help the team.”

With the season set to start this weekend, Doucoure will probably not suit up in the starting 11 right away. But I for one am excited to see the Everton Experiment in full swing.
