A native of North Battleford, SK, Cave was airlifted to hospital in Toronto after originally being in hospital in Barrie, ON, after his wife awoke in the night to find Cave unresponsive and bleeding from his ears. Once in Toronto, he underwent emergency surgery where doctors removed a colloid cyst that was putting pressure on his brain.

Emily Cave also posted an emotional update on Instagram about her husband’s condition on Wednesday night.

Jason Davidson, Cave’s agent, stated that the situation was not linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 11 games with the Oilers this season, Cave scored one goal, a highlight-reel goal on goaltender Matt Murray of the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was the last goal Cave would score in the NHL. In 67 career games split between the Oilers and the Boston Bruins, Cave scored four goals and had five assists.

The Game Changer Sports Network sends our most sincere condolences to the Edmonton Oilers and Colby Cave’s family during this extremely difficult time.
