Bayern Munich announced on Monday that they have completed a move for winger Douglas Costa. The Brazilian is set to return to Bavaria on a one-year loan spell without the opportunity for Bayern to buy later on, meaning Costa will return to Juventus next year. This move comes a few days after the reigning European champions were blocked from bringing in Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The 30-year-old was once a regular fixture at Bayern Munich. From 2015 to 2017, the right winger appeared in 77 matches, notched 41 goals+assists, and helped bring two more Bundesliga titles and a DFB-Pokal to the Allianz Arena. His stay at Bayern didn’t last too long, however, as in 2017 he was loaned out to Juventus. He was later bought by the Italian giant a year later, where he helped his team win three Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia, and a Supercoppa.
Costa was a well liked figure at Juventus, however with Federico Chiesa moving to the club from Fiorentina, Juve saw him as expendable. So with only a day or two left in the transfer window, Juve started talking to Bayern about a possible loan deal.
Luckily, Costa understandably seemed excited about making a return to the Allianz. This morning after signing his deal, he said that he “had a wonderful time in Munich with lots of successes and I’m sure we’ll win titles again.”
Additionally, Bayern Munich have also come to terms with striker Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and right back Bouna Sarr this morning, so it’s fair to say that the European champs aren’t resting on their laurels at this point.
