Donovan Mitchell questionable for game two

In the second half of Sunday’s game one, Donovan Mitchell left the game with foot soreness.  As Mitchell ran around the perimeter to receive a pass, Corey Brewer stepped on his foot, somewhat stopping his trajectory.  It didn’t seem all that serious at the time, as Mitchell stayed in the lineup coming out of halftime.

thumbs up

Within minutes of the second half starting, however, it was obvious that he was hobbling around and coach Quin Snyder took him out of the game for the training staff to check him out.  He was taken back into the locker room and received imaging on his foot.  The results came back negative, and he returned in the fourth quarter.

It was clear to see that it was still bothering him as he made his way up and down the court, but Mitchell finished the game with 27 points and 10 rebounds.  He is the first rookie since LeBron James in 2006 to have at least 25 points and 10 rebounds in a playoff debut.

Following the loss to OKC, Mitchell commented on his injury and downplayed it a little, saying he only “stubbed his toe” and that he will be fine for game two.  A later report came out saying that his status is still “up in the air”.  The Utah Jazz will need everything they can from Mitchell come Wednesday night if they want any chance at evening the series against the Thunder.
