Djokovic Downs Dimitrov

Novak Djokovic extinguished Grigor Dimitrov’s hopes for a second Queens Club Championship on Thursday by defeating the Bulgarian 6-4, 6-1.

The first set found both players holding serve until a lackluster tenth game from Dimitrov that led to Novak breaking the World No. 5 to take the set.

It only took the fourth game in the second set for Novak to break Dimitrov when on break point Grigor hit a backhand into the net. Dimitrov could never get his footing the rest of the way and Novak finished him off handily to win the match.

Novak had entered the tournament with a wild card in hopes to get himself better prepared for Wimbledon that starts in a couple of weeks.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion has not advanced past the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam event since reaching the US Open final in 2016.

With the loss, Dimitrov remains title-less for 2018 and now holds a record of 19-12 on the year. Last year he finished with four titles.

Head to head the Serbian now holds a 7-1 edge over Grigor.

Djokovic will next face the winner of Julien Benneteau and Adrian Mannarino. Their match is scheduled for later Thursday.
