Disqualification Following Coca-Cola 600

After an impressive second place finish Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet driven by Jimmie Johnson was disqualified after the car failed post race inspection after the race. He will be credited with a 40th place finish.

NASCAR stated that the No. 48 Chevrolet failed the Optical Scanning Station (OSS) in the rear alignment portion of the scan. The disqualification not only removes the teams 2nd place position, but it also negates the eleven stage points Johnson had earned throughout the race. An appeal of the disqualification is an option.

Cliff Daniels, crew chief of the No. 48, Tweeted early Monday morning his reaction to the disqualification.

If the team does decide to file an appeal to the penalty, the result could be announced before the next race on Wednesday.
