Brighton and Hove Albion announced on Monday that they have completed a move for Ecuadorian wunderkind Moises Caicedo from Independiente del Valle. The south England side that is coming off a massive home win over Tottenham have signed the 19-year-old to a four and a half year contract that is set to expire when the player is only 23. As of right now, the agreement between Brighton and Independiente is unknown and the transfer has yet to pass international clearance.
Brighton manager Graham Potter made is clear that bringing in Caicedo was a top priority. “It’s no secret we have been working to bring Moises to the club, and we are very pleased he is finally here.”
Potter went on to add that if they hope to get the best out of Caicedo, they will need to give the youngster time to acclimate to his team. However, he made it clear that the club is ready to do what it takes because they are excited to bring him in. “He has done very well in Ecuador and made his debut for his country just 18. He’s an exciting signing, but it is important give him time to adjust.”
According to the folks at Transfermarkt, Caicedo is worth around 5.5 million dollars, which makes him the 49th most valuable player in the world born in 2001. Of all the players ahead of Caicedo, only Lanus’ Pedro de la Vega ($9.9 million), Fluminense’s Marcos Paulo ($9.9 million), and Sarsfield’s Thiago Almada ($19.8 million) are not currently playing in Europe.
Before putting his name on the dotted line for the Seagulls, Caicedo had also been linked with other Premier League clubs including Newcastle, Chelsea, and even Manchester United.
