According to PWInsider and other outlets, Daniel Bryan will follow in the footsteps of John Cena and will NOT be attending the WWE Crown Jewel event for his WWE Championship match against AJ Styles.
The news comes only one day after WWE formally announced that John Cena would not be taking the trip to The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Friday Pay-Per-View; as he was replaced by Bobby Lashley in the World Cup tournament on Monday Night Raw.
While not “officially” confirmed, its been said for weeks that Cena informed management early on that he refused to wrestle at the event, citing the well documented controversy regarding the Saudi government and the death of a journalist. However, WWE did not make any booking changes until last night; as they hoped Cena might change his mind.
It now seems that Daniel Bryan will look to do the same thing, as he has apparently told management that he will not attend Crown Jewel as well. Many are speculating that WWE will shoot an angel tonight on SmackDown LIVE to explain Bryan’s absence on Friday.
Whether they formally do an angle where Bryan is “taken out” by someone, and “forced” to miss the show, or they will push the match off the card completely. At this time, the WWE Champion AJ Styles is still confirmed for the show, and will be defending his title.
Who would Bryan’s replacement be? At this time, rumors have it that Rusev will be the one to attack Bryan and be placed into the match – this again is not confirmed.
