Dalvin Cook Has No Leverage To Hold Out

As reported earlier this week, Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook will not be reporting to any team activities unless he gets a new contract. The Vikings reportedly offered him a multi-year deal worth just under $10 million per year.

Reports are saying that he currently wants in the ballpark of $13 million per year. $13 million or more would put him somewhere in the top five paid Running Backs in the league.

Cook deserves a pay raise from the $1.3 million he is set to make this year, there’s no doubt about that. If we are being honest, he also deserves to be one of the top five paid in the league. Kansas City Chiefs rooking Running Back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is set to make a full $1 million more than him this season.

He is that important to the Minnesota offense. They can’t just let him walk. However, holding out wouldn’t do him any favors.

In the grand scheme of things Cook has no leverage for a new contract. If he does not show up to camp this year then as a player with less than four years, he will lose a year towards his UFA status and be restricted free agent in 2021. On top of that there is also a 50k per day fine that the team could issue him. His salary for the 2020 NFL season is currently at $1.3 million, and his fines could reach $1.5 Million.

Last season Cook played in all 16 games and ran the ball 250 times for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also had 53 receptions for 519 yards. The Vikings offense ran through him for the most part.

What do you think Dalvin Cook is worth, let us know in the comments section on the website or social media!
