Could Jalen Ramsey Really be Traded? Possible Trade Options

Since entering the league in 2016 as the number five overall pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars, CB Jalen Ramsey has made quite the name for himself around the league. Notorious for his on and off field trash talk and his freakishly athletic build, Ramsey is regarded as one of the top, if not the top, defensive back in the entire league by both fans and players alike. It seems though that both the team and Ramsey have hit a crossroads this year after falling to a 3-8 record. Earlier this year, the superstar defensive back tweeted “When I’m gone from here, y’all gone miss me. I ain’t even trippin lol”, causing much controversy regarding Ramsey’s future with the team. Could this be his final year with the young Jaguar team that was one game shy of a Super Bowl appearance last season?

The argument for trading Ramsey is simple, if he plans to leave anyway, is to maximize on his value. If the tweet is what we believe it is to be, Jacksonville almost has no option but to trade him for what he’s worth (potentially a first round pick). That and when his contract comes to be renewed he’ll demand what he’s worth, a true mega-deal. So if Jacksonville finds that his on and off field antics of constant trashing of other players aren’t worth the money, they’ll have to trade him and it is a genuine possibility that they will. But who would have the resources and the need to trade for the young superstar? Here are three teams with legitimate potential and need for Ramsey’s services:

Team One : Oakland Raiders

This could be the super trade the Raiders have been gearing up for. Coach Gruden and the Oakland Raiders have obtained two first round picks and another of their own, while headed into 2019 with the fifth most cap space of $82 million. Obviously in rebuild mode, the Raiders could use a young athletic monster in their secondary to begin building that defense. They certainly have the resources to do such a move, does Gruden pull the trigger or remain content and draft his own players?

Team Two : New York Jets

The New York Jets could build a monster defense with the addition of Jalen Ramsey. They already have key pieces in place on that defense with DL Leonard Williams and S Jamal Adams in place. The addition of Jalen Ramsey would boost this team into instant playoff threats with how close they compete year in and year out with the league’s best. With the 2nd most cap space of $106 million heading into 2019, the Jets certainly have the funds to pull it off with the right offer.

Team Three : Arizona Cardinals

My final pick for a possible Ramsey trade is the Arizona Cardinals. They made it clear that they were going to regroup and resupply their defense after the release of S Tyrann Mathieu last off-season. This secondary has a ton of upside and could use a star like Ramsey to pair up with the rest of their pass coverage unit. They also have a fair amount of cap space to renew his deal if they so choose to do so with $76 million heading into 2019. The Cardinals are a young team with a possible future if the team’s front office is capable to make the right moves and Ramsey would be a huge step in the right direction for the team.
