The Chicago Cubs made a big splash in the off-season by bringing Yu Darvish into their pitching rotation and deciding to not re-sign Jake Arrieta. One of the big questions going into the season for the Cubs was where Darvish would be in their rotation. Tonight, we finally have our answer.
Just a few weeks ago Darvish was signed to a 6-year deal worth $126 million. Darvish, who finished last season with a 10-12 record, a 3.86 ERA and 1.16 WHIP will find himself in the three spot of the rotation for the Cubs entering the season.
The Cubs have 2 left-handers in their starting rotation with Jon Lester and Jose Quintana, so it is not a shock that those two were separated within the rotation as the Ace and fourth, respectively. Filling in the gaps will be Kyle Hendricks in the two-spot and Tyler Chatwood, rounding out the rotation in the fifth spot.
Lester finished the 2017 campaign 13-8 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.
Hendricks finished 7-5 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.119 WHIP.
Quintana was 11-11 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
Chatwood ended with an 8-15 record, 4.69 ERA and 1.44 WHIP.
With the addition of Darvish, the 2016 World Series Champions look to make another run at the pennant after ending a 107 year drought.
