CC Sabathia re-signs with the Yanks/ What comes next?

The New York Yankees have re-signed veteran left-handed pitcher, CC Sabathia to a one-year $8 million deal, pending a medical exam from the team’s physician. Sabathia entered free agency after going 9-7 with a 3.65 ERA in 29 games during the 2018 season. The 6x All-Star is now the presumed to join Severino and Tanaka in the starting rotation.

This deal, much like the Brett Gardner deal just a week ago, creates a clearer picture as to what Brian Cashman and the rest of the Yankee brass have planned for the rest of this off-season. While major deals for pitching can still occur, the blockbuster offensive signings of guys like Machado and Harper might be less likely.

The Yankees are showing a much more cautious and conservative hand than what some might have expected.

Cashman has already said that he would be interested in signing J.A. Happ, the lefty who went 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA during his time with the Yankees this season, if the money was right. Today, rumors surfaced that the Yankees might be interested in making moves for Cleveland’s Corey Kluber, and Seattle’s James Paxton. This along with the possible signing of Patrick Corbin.

What does this deal really mean? It means that the Yankees still see value in Sabathia, even if he is just a clubhouse leader. The deal also doesn’t cost the Yankees much at all. The deal still gives the Yankees have plenty of room to do major things.
