Sunday we seen the Carolina Panthers travel down to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it was a very entertaining game to watch.
Tampa Bay came out swinging, looking to redeem themselves after losing to the New Orleans Saints. With 5:42 left in the first, Ronald Jones capped off an impressive drive by scoring on a 7-yard rush, putting Tampa Bay up 7-0.
The Bucs began their next drive on Carolina’s 23 yard line after a strip-sack on Teddy Bridgewater. Tom Brady, lining up in the shotgun, tossed a 23 yard beauty to Mike Evans, finding him in the endzone. 14-0.
The second quarter wasn’t as eventful as the first. A few long drives ending in punts. However, with 3:01 left on the clock before halftime, we seen Leonard Fournette score his first TD as a a Buccaneer. He scored off a one yard rush at the goal line, putting the Buccaneers up 21-0.
If there were any fans in the stands, I’m sure the Carolina fans would be gathering their things and heading to the parking lot.
Coming out the half, the gameplans for both teams seemed pretty simple. Tampa Bay just seemed interested in maintaining their three touchdown lead. Carolina was going to hand the ball to Christian McCaffrey and get out of the way.
McCaffrey was mostly held in check in the first half by the stout Tampa Bay front seven. He scored the only touchdown of the quarter scoring on a one yard rush, putting Carolina on the board. 21-7.
McCaffrey once again found the endzone early in the fourth quarter, scoring on a seven yard rush, making it a one score game. 21-14. McCaffrey would later exit the game with an ankle injury, although it didn’t seem to be serious, just a cautionary exit.
After being silent the third quarter, Tampa Bay had to go to work making sure a comeback wasn’t possible. Ryan Succopp hit a 33 yard field goal with six minutes to go in the 4th. 24-14. Joey Slye answered right back with a 23 yard chip shot, keeping the game close. 24-17.
The dagger came late with a little over a minute to go in the game. Leonard Fournette broke away from the pack and scored on a 46 yard run, putting the Buccaneers up 31-17.
