Since the 2019 off-season, there were trade rumors about the Colorado Rockies involving Nolan Arenado. After a year of rumors despite Arenado signing an 8 Contract Extension with Colorado, the team is close to pulling the trigger on Arenado. On Friday, according to Ken Rosenthal, Colorado have a deal in place to send Nolan Arenado to the St Louis Cardinals. Colorado will also send St Louis money believed to be in the $50 Million range. Arenado is under contract until the 2027 off-season.
According to Rosenthal the reason for the trade not being complete yet is due to Arenado having to waive his no-trade clause, Arenado 2021 opt-out clause being addressed and the MLB and the Players Union having to agree on it.
In a shortened season, Arenado had a batting average of .253, 8 home runs, 26 RBI’s, and an on-base percentage of .303. Before the shorten 2020 MLB Season, Arenado was coming off a monster year, hitting an average of .315 40 home runs, 118 RBI’s, and an on-base percentage of .379.
Outside of putting up monster number offensively, Arenado is amazing on defense winning the defensive player of the year award 3 times, gold glove 7 times, and platinum glove 3 times.
