Canelo Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KO’s) took little time in setting his next fight since defeating Callum Smith by a lopsided unanimous decision in late December to close out 2020.
He has agreed to terms to face Turkish fighter Avni Yildirim, (21-2, 12 KO’s) who is his mandatory opponent for his WBC Championship. Canelo is currently the WBA, WBC and Ring 168 unified champion.
The fight is currently slated for February 27th at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
The alleged plan by Canelo and his team is to quickly get his WBC mandatory out of the way so he can set up a unification bout with WBO Champion Billy Joe Saunders on Cinco De Mayo weekend.
