The Dallas Cowboys and CB Byron Jones reps reportedly held a meeting today. The two sides have come to an understanding that he will hit free agency. This would mean that the franchise tag will likely not be used on him.
Jones, 27, started 15 games this season and recorded 44 total tackles, six pass defenses, and one forced fumble.
Jones is expected to field offers worth $15M-$16M per year in free agency and could land a deal that makes him the highest paid cornerback in the NFL.Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard is currently the highest paid cornerback with an average salary of $15.05m per year.
This offseason currently still holds the future of Jones, Dak Prescott, and Amari Cooper in its hands. This is the first report of the Cowboys big moves. Prescott is likely to be tagged if a deal isn’t worked out.
