Busch Grabs Xfinity, Cup Wins at Phoenix, Win Total Climbs to 199

Kyle Busch brought his broom to Phoenix this past weekend.

Busch not only claimed the win in the IK9 Service Dog 200 Xfinity Series race on Saturday, but found victory lane in Sunday’s TicketGuardian 500 Monster Energy Cup Series race on Sunday afternoon. The two wins gives him 199 NASCAR series wins, one shy of 200.

On Saturday, Busch’s closest competitors were caught up in a situation they didn’t even cause themselves. Busch’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell and Justin Allgaier were taken out of contention on lap 130, when the No. 01 of Stephen Leicht blew his motor in front of the second and third place runners.

Both Bell and Allgaier would end up in the wall, damaging their cars in the process and taking them out of contention for the win. Busch would lead the field to the green on lap 143 and never look back, capturing his 2nd Xfinity win of the year. Ryan Truex would finish in 2nd, while last year’s champion Tyler Reddick finished in third.

His victory in Sunday’s Monster Energy Cup Series race was not as easy. Following leader Ryan Blaney during the closing stages of the race, while also saving fuel in the process, Busch made his winning move on lap 296 and was able to stretch the fuel to the end. Martin Truex Jr. made a late race charge to second, while Blaney finished in third.

“It’s not for me to worry about,” Busch said about his win total in victory lane on Sunday. “It’s for everyone else to discuss and talk about and argue over and debate. For myself and the career that I’ve had, I’ve been fortunate to be around a lot of top people and a lot of great sponsors.” (Fox Sports 1)
