Bucks Avoid Sweep Despite Giannis Injury

League superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo showed the Heat why he’s likely to repeat as MVP in tonight’s elimination game, scoring 19 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in only 11 minutes of play. Unfortunately, he aggravated an ankle injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Down 3-0 and without their franchise player, the Bucks seemed unlikely to pull out a win against the Miami Heat, the only undefeated team left in this year’s playoffs. The Giannis injury lit a fire under the team instead, and they put together an overtime win to avoid the sweep.

Khris Middleton was the engine behind the game 4 win, scoring 36 points along with 8 rebounds and 8 assists. He especially came alive down the stretch, keeping the Heat at bay as they made a push in overtime.

The Heat still played well, seeing balanced play from all of their starters. Each scored at least 17 points in the kind of combined effort that has provided them with so much playoff success. Their bench failed to contribute aside from rookie Tyler Herro who nailed two clutch three pointers to keep the Heat in the game.

Giannis’ status for Game 5 is unknown, but the Bucks showed today that they are a capable team even without their star player. This win might provide the momentum they need to get back into this series.

It’s important to note that no team in NBA history has come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a series. Only 3 have ever made it to a Game 7.
