The Cleveland Browns add another former Los Angeles Rams player in the secondary. After signing S John Johnson to a 3 year, $34.5 million deal. the Browns are now adding CB Troy Hill on a four year, $24 million deal. The Browns beefed up their secondary that was ravished by injuries and Covid in 2020. The former teammates are now reunited in the AFC North.
After the Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford trade that the Los Angeles Rams Rams made with the Detroit Lions, The team was left with $24.7 million in dead cap money. This dead money ruined any chanced they had at re-signing their own players back. Now both Hill and Johnson are with Cleveland. Hill also returns home as he is from the Cleveland area. Hill and Johnson are a part of the huge defensive haul that Cleveland has focused on in this free agent class.
Hill was an undrafted free agent back in 2015 and has spent his entire career thus far with the Rams. 2020 is the first time he has ever played a full season and his stats shows. He put up the best numbers of his career with 77 tackles, 3 interceptions, 10 passes defended, and 3 defensive touchdowns.
