Week 3 kicks off tonight after one of the worst injury filled weeks I have ever seen. With tons of injuries and pivotal pieces missing I will go through who I think will breakout this week and who might bust.
Leonard Fournette: The Tampa Bay running back took over the lion’s share of touches out of the backfield last week following a Ronald Jones II fumble and did not miss on the opportunity. He rushed 12 times for 103 yard and two touchdowns. With a tough matchup with The Denver Broncos defense he might struggle in the beginning stages of the game, but with Drew Lock out and Courtland Sutton gone for the season with a torn ACL a positive game script should give him all the opportunity he will need.
Carson Wentz: Carson Wentz has not gotten out to a hot start this 2020 season throwing 512 yards 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. This matchup against The Cincinnati Bengals atrocious pass defense should allow him to right the ship for at least this week as long as he can get some protection. Wentz took 8 sacks against the Washington Football Team, and when paired against The Los Angeles Rams his linemen were able to stop Aaron Donald and their pass rush from getting a single sack. Also look for Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert to have a decent game as well.
T.Y. Hilton: T.Y. Hilton has been held back some by bone headed interceptions from Philip Rivers, but has also hurt himself by dropping passes. Last week Hilton dropped what should have been a 44 yard touchdown pass, even so he is still creating separation and Rivers can get him the ball. He is a talented, fast pass catcher so you know he is going to figure it out. With a plus matchup against The New York Jets I like Hilton to score and end up with close to 100 yards.
Matt Ryan: Matt Ryan runs up against a tough matchup this Sunday facing The Chicago Bears stout defense. Ryan has been balling out of control looking like his old Matty-Ice self in the last two weeks leading The Atlanta Falcons in shootouts. With that being said he has not faced a defense with the ability to get to the quarterback and lockdown pass catchers like the Bears . Look for Julio Jones to have a decent game but that’s about it.
Nick Chubb: The Cleveland Browns have been able to feed Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt enough for both running backs to be fantasy relevant in the past two weeks. With them going against The Washington Football Team’s tough run defense it will be hard for Chubb to break out. The likelihood of a negative game script will lead to more passing which is Hunt’s territory. Over the first 2 weeks Chubb has gotten 2 targets compared to Hunt’s 6. Look for Chubb to have a bunch of carries but not a lot of yards while I like Hunt to have a good day in the passing game.
Baltimore Running Backs: Mark Ingram and J.k. Dobbins are the workhorses coming out of the backfield behind Lamar Jackson. I do not like either of these running backs this week with The Baltimore Ravens facing The Kansas City Chiefs. The game will most likely turn to a shootout leaving the two Raven running backs to pick up the scraps. With no true leader in the passing back realm I see the running back by committee hurting both of their fantasy values.
Tempered Expectations: With these players you still want to start them, but I just wanted to point out that the chance you are going to get as much value as in recent weeks is unlikely. Deshaun Watson is playing The Pittsburgh Steelers tough defense and with the lack of a DeAndre Hopkins type star receiver it is a tough matchup. Josh Allen has been lights out the last two games but going against the Rams pass rushers and Jalen Ramsey shadowing Stefon Diggs he will likely score less than 40 fantasy points this week. Both quarterbacks legs give them a high fantasy floor. Lastly Tyler Higbee will not score 3 touchdowns again. I am still starting Higbee in my league but I am expecting maybe a touchdown and around 50-70 yards. Expect all three players to be closer to their floor than their ceiling this week.
