Breaking: NXT Takeover Schedule Change for Wrestlemania Weekend

WWE’s Wrestlemania weekend may be a few months off, but things are already shaking up in a massive way!

Earlier in the year, it was reported that New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor had managed to secure Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 6th for an unprecedented G1 Supercard. This was significant for a number of reasons, namely being that this would pit NJPW/ROH’s event against WWE’s NXT Takeover event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for that weekend. Given that these events were running concurrent during WWE’s biggest weekend of the year, the turnout of both casual and hardcore wrestling fans were expected to be divided (as evidenced by the fact that G1 Supercard is officially sold out at this time).

However, as of today, WWE has alerted customers that have purchased their Wrestlemania Travel Packages that their NXT Takeover event has now been relocated to Friday, April 5th, with their annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony taking place on Saturday, April 6th.

As a result, NJPW/ROH and WWE will no longer be running against each other on the same night. This allows fans of both promotions to enjoy both shows at a more convenient pace and allows both shows to run without harming the other’s ticket sales.

What do you all think of this shift in dates? What does this signify for WWE, NJPW/ROH and Professional Wrestling as a whole going forward?
