BREAKING NEWS: Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov is SET!

UFC President Dana White announced today that Conor McGregor will make his long awaited return to an octagon on October 6th at UFC 229 when he faces Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

White made the announcement at today’s press conference on UFC 229, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada inside the T-Mobile Arena.

McGregor hasn’t fought in a cage since November of 2016, with only his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather in August of 2017 as a buffer. McGregor is the former lightweight champion, which he was forced to relinquish, due to inactivity. Nurmagomedov was awarded the belt after he defeated AI Iaquinta at UFC 223.

The feud between McGregor and Nurmagomedov goes much deeper than the Lightweight title, prior to Nurmagomedov’s win at UFC 223, an altercation between himself and McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov (UFC Featherweight), promoted McGregor, along side others, to storm the Barclays’ Center transportation terminal and throw a metal dolly into a coach boss with UFC fighters inside.

Since then, McGregor has made a deal with the District Attorney’s Office of Brooklyn and has avoided any criminal charges or jail time, after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct.

With the war of words behind them, McGregor and Champion Nurmagomedov are set on their clash in October. With McGregor’s absence, Nurmagomedov has taken the role of most fierce and dominant force in both the lightweight division, but in UFC as well. Can McGregor prove once again why he is considered the greatest UFC fighter of a generation? Or is the new king here to stay?
