Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th career goal for the Portuguese National Team during a Nations League contest against Sweden on Tuesday. He is now one of only two men in the history of world football to reach triple digits while playing for his country. The only other guy to do so was Iranian legend Ali Daei, who bagged 109 goals from 1993 to 2006. The only thing stopping Ronaldo from surpassing Daei is, quite frankly, if he forgets how to kick a ball.
What makes Ronaldo’s 100th goal so special, however, is just how beautiful his strike was. With less than 10 seconds before the start of injury time in the first half, Ronaldo lined up for a well-positioned free kick. CR7 then struck with his right foot and clinically bent the ball over and around both the Swedish defense and keeper for what was yet another clinical Ronaldo finish.
I’m not sure how much longer Ronaldo will be at the top of his game, but at this point, I’m just happy to see that he’s still here making defenses look silly year after year. And that’s pretty cool.
