Boston Celtics With A “Smart” Move

Boston Celtics With A “Smart” Move

Free agency kicked off with a bang on July 1st, but it was unclear what the Boston Celtics planned to do with Marcus Smart.

Early in the process it was said that the likely scenario would be Smart accepting the qualifying offer extended to him by the Celtics.

Smart felt he was worth more and deserved a longer term contract.

Time continued to pass with no new indicator that his team wanted him back and he started to feel discouraged and hurt by the lack of communication.

In an interview he said he had “no clue” on what the Celtics plans were with him.

All of that uncertainty came to a halt Thursday morning when reports came out that the Celtics and Marcus Smart had agreed to a 4 year, $52 million deal.

With all of this behind them now Smart will look to capitalize on one of the better seasons he’s had last year.

With Kyrie Irving coming back along with Gordon Hayward you will probably see Smarts’ career minutes average of 28.7 drop in this upcoming season but he will still look to have a major contribution with the second unit.
