Bell Punches Ticket To Next Round With Richmond Win

Christopher Bell claimed his fifth win of the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and punched his ticket to the next round of the playoffs.

With regular season champion Justin Allgaier crashing out of the race with 24 laps to go, Bell took advantage and raced to victory ahead of last week’s winner Ross Chastain. “I tell you what, that’s pretty cool,” said Bell. “It’s not very often you get to win with a car that’s not a winning car. So, we’ll take it.  Bell now holds the points lead heading into next weekends race on the Charlotte road course.

Chastain, who had to start from the back of the pack after a clutch issue, charged through the field to challenge Bell in the closing moments of the race.  This race marked the final time Chastain would drive for Chip Ganassi Racing this season.  His win last weekend at Las Vegas was the first of his career.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. would make an impactful return to NASCAR, leading a race-high 96 laps and finishing 4th.  “It got my expectations all messed up! Man, I’m like, ‘Dang, I’ve got to win now.’ But we didn’t have the car at the end. We started on the outside on the final restart, which was kind of tough. Just didn’t have what we needed at the end. But I’m glad that we got to lead a lot of laps. We ran really good for all the people that came down to watch us,” Earnhardt said after the race.

Daniel Hemric would complete the top three, while Matt Tifft would complete the top five in fifth place.  Bell leads the standings by 28 points over Daniel Hemric while Justin Allgaier holds down third.  The next race for the Xfinity Series is September 29th on the road course of Charlotte Motor Speedway, which should prove to be exciting event.
