Bell Makes History at Iowa, Wins Third Straight

Not since Dale Earnhart Jr. in 1999 has a Nascar Xfinity Series driver won three straight races.  Christopher Bell changed that Sunday at Iowa Speedway, capturing his third straight checkered flag and fourth of the 2018 Nascar Xfinity Series season.

With 14 laps remaining in the race, Chase Briscoe spun in front of Bell, with Bell sustaining some damage to his No. 20 Ruud Toyota Camry.  Bell was able to maintain the lead until Garrett Smithley spun to bring out another yellow flag.  At the restart, Bell would be shuffled back to fourth as Justin Allgaier would take the lead with a daring outside move.  One lap later, Matt Tifft and Max Tullman made contact, bringing out the red flag and stopping the race.

Once the race resumed with two laps to go, Bell would make his move.  Starting fourth at the green, Bell ran within inches of the back bumper of Allgaier going into turn one, and was able to clear Brandon Jones coming off of turn two.  Bell then dove his No. 20 Toyota Camry deep into turn three and drew alongside Allgaier coming off turn four.

At the line Bell and Allgaier were even with no driver, having a distinct advantage going into turn one of the final lap.  Bell was finally able to clear Allgaier exiting turn two, and pulled away to claim his third consecutive victory.  “When it’s your day, it’s your day,” Bell said after the win. “I’ll take them any way I can get them.”

Allgaier would have to settle for second place while Kyle Benjamin would finish in third. Ross Chastain would come home in fourth with his best finish of the 2018 Xfinity Series season, while John Hunter Nemechek would cross the line in fifth.

The series now heads to the historic Watkins Glen International to contest the Zippo 200 on Saturday, August 4th.  The race will go green at 3:00pm on NBC.
