Despite playing in a stadium housing an opossum, thirsty fans, and the occasional blind referee, Baker Mayfield has secured the first win for the Cleveland Browns for the first time in the last 635 days. The last time the Browns won a real game was the 24th of December, 2016. Robert Griffin III lead the team to victory on the backs of two Isaiah Crowell touchdowns and a pair of Cody Parkey field goals. Antonio Gates caught his 109th career touchdown reception. This game was a lifetime ago in NFL time.
Fast forward to week three of the 2018 Regular Season. Thursday Night Football and the eyes of the nation are upon them. The Browns being on a nationally televised game is almost synonymous with “Fail videos” on YouTube. Consciously, you know that you are about to see a train wreck and yet you keep watching. You keep watching for the inevitable train wreck that is inflicted on the city of Cleveland. Only on this day, whether it be for glory or beer, Baker Mayfield “Philly Special”-ed his way to victory.
After trailing 14-3 at halftime, the Baker led Browns leaned on the birthday boy Carlos Hyde who was able to cross the goal line twice before rushing to the hospital for the birth of his new son. The Dawg Pound Defense also intercepted Sam Darnold twice, with the second one happening in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
Now, with free beer in hand, Believeland marches forward with a perfect .500 record of 1-1-1. This may not be the start of a Super Bowl run, however it may be the first step for a long awaited walk out of the basement of the National Football League.
