Bad News Mets

The New York Mets just cannot seem to catch a break.

Today during the first inning of their game against the Cincinnati Reds their lineup seemed to be off to a decent start. With two outs in the inning, Wilmer Flores striking out for the second, Asdrubal Cabrera hit a ground rule double over the left field wall into the stands.

Seems like a good start to have a guy threatening in the first inning. That is until interim manager Jim Riggleman approached plate umpire Gabe Morales with his lineup card.

Almost immediately Morales agreed that the Mets had batted out of order ruling Jay Bruce, the next batter for the Mets, out. Cabrera would still keep his double in the scorebook.

What happened was earlier in the day the Mets had originally put Cabrera batting second and Flores batting third, which was on the card presented to both the Reds and the umpire crew. However, a game time decision was made which flipped the two and a new lineup card was never given to either party.

The last time we saw a major league team bat out of order was the Milwaukee Brewers on July 4th, 2016 when they faced the Washington Nationals.
