Atlanta Falcons Restructure Matt Ryan’s Contract

The contract of Matt Ryan with the Atlanta Falcons has been restructured. In order to get under the NFL’s salary cap by Wednesday, the team has restructured the franchise quarterback’s deal. The move, which will help create salary cap space, puts the team below the salary cap.

Before the restructure, Atlanta sat $8.2 million over the cap. In order to move below the cap, the Falcons took $21 million of what was due to Ryan this upcoming season and converted it into a signing bonus. The signing bonus will then be spread out over the 2021, 2022 and 2023 NFL seasons. Before today, Ryan was set to make $40,912,500. Now, Ryan will make $26,912,500.
