Fernando Alonso will not race in the 2019 Indianapolis 500.
The former 2-time Formula 1 World Champion was bumped out of the Indy 500 field by Juncos Racing driver Kyle Kaiser with a margin of 0.019 mph. Alonso and McLaren have struggled to find speed throughout the week, and could not find the necessary speed to make the field.
With a huge name like McLaren and Alonso in the field, their has been talk of McLaren buying a ride into the field for next weekends race. However, the last time that happened was 2011 when Andretti Autosport purchased a ride into the field for Ryan Hunter-Reay.
Patricio O’Ward and Max Chilton were also bumped from the Indianapolis 500 field. O’Ward, who was forced to a backup car after a practice crash earlier in the week, could not find the amount of speed needed to make the field in his back up car.
