Justin Allgaier has spent the entire 2019 Xfinity Series Championship season searching for a win to cement himself as a contender for the title. Allgaier did just that Saturday, claiming the Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 200 at ISM Raceway.
After leading a race-high 92 laps and winning the first two stages, Christopher Bell looked poised to take yet another checkered flag this season. However, a pit lane entrance speed penalty would relegate him to a 17th place starting spot at the start of the final stage. On lap 116, Bell’s race for the win would end as a solo spin would result in Bell losing a lap on the field. Bell settled for a 16th place finish, but was already qualified for the Championship 4.
“It’s incredible man. All these guys on this race team, to do what we have done all year, to have the speed that we have had, but to not be able to pull it off has been disappointing. These guys have rallied behind it. We said when we came here that we needed to get a win so we can go to Homestead, and we did that,” Allgaier stated after the race.
The win secures a trip to Homestead for Allgaier, who joins Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick and Cole Custer as the four who will compete for the Xfinity Series Championship next week at Homestead. Missing out on the Championship 4 were Chase Briscoe, Michael Annett, Austin Cindric and Noah Gragson.
Next weekend will decided it all for the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. Stay tuned this week for an in depth look at the four drivers who will contend for the championship at Homestead next weekend.
