Alberto Del Rio to Fight….Tito Ortiz?

Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio will make his MMA return against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz. The fight will be under the Combate Americas fight banner, according to the company’s CEO Campbell McLaren.

Ortiz, 44, fought Chael Sonnen in January of 2017 at Bellator 170. Ortiz defeated Sonnen with a rear-naked choke in the first round. Ortiz hasn’t seen action since last November, when he came out of retirement to face longtime rival Chuck Liddell for Golden Boy MMA. Ortiz knocked Liddell out in the first round. He holds an MMA record of 20-12-1.

Del Rio, whose real name is José Alberto Rodriguez, is no stranger to MMA. Between the years of 2001-2010, Del Rio fought under the name Dos Caras Jr. Caras posted a 9-5 record in that time. He last fought Yamamoto Hanshi in 2010, where he was TKO’d in the 2nd round.

Del Rio is most famously known for his time in WWE between 2009-2014, then again in 2015 and 2016. After leaving the company, Del Rio went to Impact Wrestling under the ring name Alberto El Patrón.

El Patrón would eventually become Impact Heavyweight Champion, but was released from the company in April of 2018, after legitimately no-showing an Impact Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground event in New Orleans.
