A Look Inside The RBC Heritage Classic

A Look Inside The RBC Heritage Classic

Course: Harbour Town Golf Links

Purse: $6,900,000

Event Begins: Thursday, April 18th

Potential FedEx Cup Points: 500

Event History:

The 2019 RBC Heritage Classic will mark the fifty-first time the event has been played, originally known as The Heritage Classic. Unlike many minor events, this one has been located at the same venue for the entirety of its existence. The Harbour Town Golf Course in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina was established two years before the event took place. The designers even asked for input from legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus who went on the win the event in the early 70s. Similar to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, this event also maintains its invitational status, but ironically will still have a much larger field than the event that currently precedes it. Speaking of Palmer, he was the first PGA Tour member to win this event back in 1969.

Tour Details:

Even in the wake of the Masters Tournament which took place last week, we are still going to see some big names this weekend. As mentioned earlier, this event maintains its invitational status, but will still boast a field of 132 players. The purse sits at $6,900,000 meaning the winner will walk away with a $1,242,000 check, as well as 500 FedEx Cup Points. The defending champion, Satoshi Kodaira who won last year with a score of 12 under (-12) is set to return. A few more previous champions who will join the competition this year include: Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Brian Gay, and Graeme McDowell. The event will begin on Thursday, April 18th.

What’s to Come:

The Tee Times and golfer pairings should be available today. Later today, I will post my picks for the Top 10 golfers in the tournament, as well as some featured pairings to follow on Thursday and Friday.
