After seven seasons with Racing Point, Sergio Perez was out of a ride at the end of the past season. The 2020 season saw Perez finally find the top step of the podium at the Sakhir Grand Prix, a second place finish in Turkey and a fourth place finish in the overall drivers standings, the future a few weeks ago for the Mexican driver were not as crystal clear.
That all changed this morning, as it was announced the Red Bull Racing have signed Perez to race alongside Max Verstappen for the team. This leaves Alexander Albon without a Formula 1 ride for 2021, after Albon struggled in his first full season with the Red Bull team. Even though Albon ended the season strong, Christian Horner and the Red Bull team will opt for the veteran in Perez to race alongside Verstappen. Albon will continue with the team, but in a reserve driver role.
